How To Beat the Heat

Office chairs come in a variety of upholstery, and popular choices include fabric, mesh, and leather. Each material has its own pros and cons, so it’s best to test out a few before choosing your chair.

If you’d like one that helps you to stay cool at home or in the office, opt for a chair that’s made fully of mesh!

Why? It’s simple - mesh provides a better air flow and free space, which makes it breathable! This improves ventilation while you're seated in your chair. It's also flexible and provides great support for your body.

Mesh is also easy to maintain, so you won’t have to worry about replacing your chair anytime soon.

Most Breathable Office Chairs

1. Ergotune Supreme

We’re proud of the ErgoTune Supreme and its many features, but one feature that we’re particularly proud of is our DuraWeave Hybrid Mesh.

The high-quality material is a blend of mesh and fabric, which is a unique blend that very little chairs in the market have. This gives it the properties of traditional mesh, while allowing it to last even longer because of the fabric blended into it.

The fabric helps to:

  • Give it the comfort and durability that traditional mesh-only chairs lack, and it prevents the mesh from becoming too hard to sit on.
  • Ensure that the mesh remains firm and supportive, yet comfortable enough for you to sit on for long hours.

And the best part - you won’t have to worry about fraying or any sagging even after continuous use. So, you'll have years of sitting in a cool office chair.

Of course, the DuraWeave mesh isn’t all there is to the ErgoTune Supreme. Other notable features include our:

  • A Smart Lumbar Support
The ATLAS Auto Tuning Lumbar support moves with your body as you’re seated in the chair. This allows you to keep your focus on your work, instead of your posture while you’re working.

Not only will you feel cool and comfortable, but you’ll also experience great ergonomics while you’re seated. With long term use, your body will no longer be riddled with aches, and you’ll feel even more productive!
  • TriTune Headrest
Very few chair companies get their headrests right – but we’re proud to say that we’ve done our headrest justice. The headrest is adjustable in height, depth and tilt angle. That means you’re free to adjust it until your head is comfortable while you’re in recline.
  • 5D Armrests
Armrests should not be neglected on a chair, and they should also be adjustable to ensure that you’re in a good sitting posture. Our 5D armrests are height adjustable and can be freely rotated up to 270 degrees.
  • Affordable Price
At just $599, you can get a chair with amazing features and comfort. Who said you had to spend a whole month’s salary on a good chair?
  • Warranty & Delivery Perks
The ErgoTune Supreme also comes with a 12 year-warranty and free delivery in Singapore, which is an absolute steal at its price point!

2. Herman Miller Aeron

This mesh office chair is one of the most popular chairs in the market, and it's made with 8Z Pellicle mesh, which is a strong and flexible material.

The chair has 8 different zones across the seat and back, which all have varying tension to support different parts of your body while you’re seated. The mesh is also breathable and flexible, which leaves you feeling cool throughout the day!

That said, the 8Z Pellicle mesh is a hit or miss for some users – they think that it causes the seat to be too firm. However, the rest of the chair still makes for great ergonomics.

Other notable features of the chair include:

  • PostureFit SL Lumbar Support
This mechanism supports your lower back with two pads. It's an adjustable lumbar support that allows you to place the lumbar support at a position that is comfortable and provides enough support for your back!
  • Unique Forward Tilt Mechanism
This allows you to remain seated in a more forward position, which people often use when they’re busy typing away at their computers. Like the Pellicle seat, this feature is also a hit or miss with users as some may find the forward tilt uncomfortable.
  • A Price to Pay
Overall, the Herman Miller Aeron is one of the best ergonomic chairs that money can buy - but on the pricier side at a whopping $1,599.

3. NeueChair

You probably already know about Secretlab chairs, specifically their gaming chairs. But did you know that they’ve also designed an ergonomic chair?

The NeueChair is made with their signature NeueMesh, a 3 layered mesh material that’s a combination of mesh, polyester, and DuPont yarn.

However, some users have said that the mesh feels a bit too much like plastic, which makes sitting uncomfortable for a long period of time.

Other notable features include:

  • An Adjustable Lumbar Support
Like every other good ergonomic chair, the NeueChair also comes with an adjustable lumbar support. You can freely adjust the height and depth of the lumbar support until it fits you nicely.
  • ControlShift Adjustments
The NeueChair also has a fuss free adjustment system, as the seat height and backrest recline levers are installed under the armrests. All you have to do is squeeze the levers when you want to make adjustments; no more bending over and reaching out for adjustments!

At the end of the day, it’s still a pricey chair at $1,149. If you'd also like a headrest, you'd have to top-up for it!

4.  Ergomeister FAEZ8ERG

The Ergomeister FAEZ8ERG is made with their trademark Air-Scape mesh material, which is a three-layered mesh material that keeps you cool throughout the day. The mesh material also moulds into the natural contour of your body, so you won’t feel any awkward poking of the material in the wrong places.

It also springs back into shape once you’re off the chair!

Other notable features of the chair include:

  • An Adjustable Lumbar Support
The Lumbar+ Extra Response system can be adjusted to fit the small of your back and also follows the natural curve of your spine, so you won’t be in an awkward position.
  • Adjustable Headrest
The headrest is adjustable up to 10cm in height and can also be adjusted forward or backward into a position that keeps your head comfortable and well supported.

It also has other adjustable features including its armrests, backrest, and seat depth!

5.   Hipvan Cory High back Chair

If you're on a budget and not intending to use your chair for long, the Hipvan Cory High Back Chair will be a good chair to get.

The backrest of this chair is made with mesh, which is good for ventilation on warmer days!

Other notable features of the chair include:

  • A Cushioned Seat
Unlike other chairs which are fully made of mesh, it has a cushioned seat for those who would prefer a softer chair to sit on.
  • Very Budget Friendly
At just $109, this is an extremely affordable chair. It also comes with a 5-year warranty, which is a decent amount of time too.

NOTE: However, this high-back chair is not ergonomic. It is also more suitable for taller users and the maximum load of the chair is 90kg.

The armrests also cannot be adjusted, which may be uncomfortable for shorter users. It's always good to try out the chair before purchasing it, especially if some features are non-adjustable!

While the cheap price point may appeal to many, do keep in mind that this is only good for short-term use. If you’re dying to return to the office once WFH is no longer the norm, you could consider one of these for a temporary fix.

Tips For Your Mesh Office Chair

Compared to other varieties of chair materials, mesh is very easy to maintain even if you spill food or drinks on it or sit in it for longer hours.

All you really need is a vacuum and a damp cloth! A simple vacuum and wipe down will clean your chair, which is fuss free and efficient.

*P.S. This is only applicable for chairs that are fully made of mesh!

If your body tends to heat up faster, or you’re looking for an alternative to a chair, you could also get an office chair cooling pad.

These are often gel pads that you place on your seat to help cool you down while you spend hours in your chair. They come in a variety of materials, including gel and memory foam - but ultimately, it’s down to trying and testing which you may prefer more.
